Hello! Right now in GT we are doing photomontages. David Hockney is a famous photographer known for his photomontages. He is supposed to be our inspiration. David Hockney's photomontages compared to mine are very different. His photomontages are a little more abstract and they don't necessarily have a literal meaning. I try to make my photomontages abstract but sometimes they don't actually turn out that way. David Hockney has his own unique style and I don't want to copy him exactly. Images have the power to send negative and positive messages. It can be happy, sad, mad, dark, bright, almost anything. For example, a bright picture of a beach can send a positive message. A dark rainy day can send a negative message. I think that color and emotion has a lot to do with what kind of message it is sending. Photographers try to send messages through their photos by using these types of things. The message that I want everyone to see in my final photomontage is that music is very important to me. In my photo there are some pretty crazy things going on in the background but the guitar stands out the most because that is only thing that is pieced together right. It's thing only thing that actually makes sense in my photomontage and I want people to notice that. I really hope that people are able to see some kind of message when they look at my photomontages. I don't know what kind of message they see, but I hope they see something. |

Right now in the Gifted & Talented class we are making video games using the website Scratch. I really wanted my games to be appealing to everyone when they play my game. To do so, I let lots of people try my game while I was still in the process of making it. I asked them for their feedback and tried to incorporate it in my game. I also played many other games and tried to see what made their games good. I also decided to use bright colors and interesting characters so people would want to play my game. I wanted my game to be in the middle of easy and hard. It should be hard enough so if they lost, then they would want to play again and try to win. It should be easy enough so they are actually able to win without getting extremely frustrated and smash their computer.
My first game was the chase game, I spent a lot of time on it and I thought it turned out pretty good. All of the functions work, and it I even had time to add extra things like background changes and music. If I were to change one thing on it, I would make the shark go a little faster because some people were saying that the game is a little easy. My second game was a platformer game. During the week we were working on it, I didn't really have access to a computer at home so I would only work on it at school. It didn't turn out as good as I would've liked it too, but at least you are able to jump and get to the circle. The timer is a little bit messed up and the score doesn't really work, but at least you can move around. For our last game we were allowed to make anything we wanted. I chose to do another platformer game because I new that I needed to make up for the last game I did. I think my best code was definitely when I made a gravity engine in my platformer game. I really wanted to make a gravity engine because it looks really cool how when you press the up arrow you would jump up and them slowly float down to the ground. I had to watch a lot of videos until I finally understood which block of code does what. Originally, if you pressed the up arrow to jump, it would start to go back down but it would stop before it hit the bottom. It definitely took a lot of work trying to figure out what I had done wrong. I had to look at other peoples projects and watch tons of videos. I eventually "gave up" (I hate saying this) and trashed all the code I made and decided to start over. The second time it actually worked, and I still don't know what I did wrong the first time.
Right now in our GT class we are making commercials for an invention we created. The invention has to solve a real life problem. My team members are Coral and Shaday (the same team members from my last post). Our main goal was to finish it on time. Our plan was originally approved 1 day late so we really wanted to stay ahead of schedule to get things done. We didn't want to turn it in on time if we didn't think it was as good as we could make it. We would rather have an amazing commercial that was turned in late rather than a bad commercial that was turned in on time.
Our best "team moment" definitely had to be when we were filming the shot where they open the ice cream. In the scene you see someone opening a tub of ice cream, and when they do it bubbles up and over flows (go to 12 seconds). We really enjoyed that scene because we got to mix baking soda and vinegar together. It was a little challenging because we had to keep testing it to find the right amount we should use. We wanted to make it so it goes all the way to the top of the container but doesn't over flow too much. After experimenting with different measurements of baking soda and vinegar, we finally figured out the perfect amount and it looked really cool. ​During post-production editing, Shaday definitely did most of the editing. That was probably because while filming, I directed most of the shots and Coral held the camera. I placed all the shots into the timeline, and Coral added effects and different sounds. I think that we were pretty fast at editing, we spent one day on editing, and we got a lot done. It usually takes us at least two days of editing to have a decent video. After editing, our video over and over again, and continued to make fine-tune edits. We really wanted to finish it one time. Our hardest part during editing would be trying to shorten all the shots to make it fit in the 40-50 second timeframe. We had a lot of long shots that we wanted to add but it would've gone over the time limit. Overall, our project turned out really good.
A lot of people were confused with this composition technique.
We are finally at the end of this joke project! I have learned a lot during the making of this monologue. I think that the thing I improved the most on is writing good jokes. The first joke I came up seemed pretty easy. My second joke was definitely the hardest, and now I find joke writing to be pretty quick and simple. I have also learned a lot about how to be comfortable when recording your monologue for A-Roll. Last year when we had to record ourselves speaking I felt really uncomfortable but after doing it a lot this school year I got used to it.
Pad is the extra space that you put before and after you take a clip. It is very important to pad your clips so nothing important gets cut off. To pad your clips, you start rolling, then you wait a couple of seconds, then you start filming. When the shot is over, you should wait another couple of seconds so nothing gets cut off. Sometimes when you start recording it doesn't actually start filming until a couple of seconds. When I film, I usually wait 5 seconds just to be sure. It is very disappointing when you have a good shot but part of it gets cut off. My hardest part was definitely trying to think of jokes. I originally thought of one joke that I was happy with, but it was only 15 seconds long. I needed at least another 15 seconds but I couldn't think of another joke. I definitely struggled with this the most but I was able to pull through it. I think my strength was definitely editing. I already had a good idea of where I was going to put my clips so it was just a matter of placing it and adding effects to it. I think that I could've added some transitions and effects to make my monologue look better. I also think that I could've recorded my monologue better because you could hear the wind blowing a lot in my video. Hello once again! Our new project in the Gifted and Talented program is to create a comedic monologue, and I am not too confident about this project. So I think that having a sense of humor is a very important character trait. I think this because it really is an easy way to make new friends. Having a sense of humor is a good way to make people enjoy being with you. If something isn't going too well then a good way to cheer them up is with a joke or something that will make them laugh or smile. I think that without humor, life sort of starts to become pretty dull because you are missing a little spark in life that can make you happy whenever you are sad. Some tips for writing a humorous narrative is that you have to start with an idea. I think that if you don't already have an idea or topic in mind, then you will definitely struggle when you try to write a humorous narrative. Another tip would be to make sure that your narrative is appropriate for your audience. You really don't want to offend anyone, you also wouldn't want to make a joke about something that the audience doesn't understand. You should also test your jokes on someone that you know before telling it to an audience. You might think the joke is funny, but everyone else might not. So my comedic monologue is about my old brother Spencer. I originally got this idea when I was trying to think of a joke that we had to do one night for homework. I was doing the dishes and I saw my brother watching YouTube videos. The video was of people trying to do cool things but they ended up messing up. My brother calls them "fail" videos. So then I instantly thought of my first joke. It was about how my brother likes to watch "fail" videos on YouTube but he doesn't laugh when I hit him in the face with a soccer ball. After that I decided to make my entire monologue about my brother. It was mostly about the things he does and how I relate to it. I think the audience will definitely laugh because a lot of people don't get along with their siblings and my monologue really talks about that. This is Shaday and I laughing
This is our very last project this year!!! I am so sad but I am really excited that summer is here. My team was amazing. Everyone in my music video team contributed a lot. Ashley was the one that thought of the song. She was really a lifesaver because it was the last day to pick a song and we absolutely couldn't think of a song to do. Denae was very helpful because she is always free to film nearly everyday of the week. She also brought props that we needed (like the stuffed animals) because nobody else had any. Eden helped with editing a lot and she added a lot of good ideas. I contributed by thinking of what the story our music video is going to be about. Eden and I were really busy this whole entire week. We both had things that we had to do nearly every day of the week and we both feel bad because we haven't contributed as much as Ashley and Denae. Ashley and Denae were able to film outside of school a couple of times due to their free schedule, which helped us a lot.
I think that the audience will enjoy our lip syncs the most. I personally think that it is very embarrassing because we put lots of emotion into our lip syncs (especially Ashley). Our audience will think it's sort of funny because we are singing with teddy bears. The lip syncs mostly have Ashley in it because she isn't afraid to be in front of the camera, unlike the rest of us. Another thing that our audience will enjoy the most is our bloopers. As you can see in our video, most of our bloopers are of Ashley. There is a really funny one where I was filming and I was waiting for Ashley to start by giving her the signal (which was me winking at her). She wasn't paying attention until the end where she says, "Wait am I supposed to start?" It was really funny and we were laughing really hard. Our music video helps to show what we have learned this year by having many things. One of the things is rule of thirds. In most of our shots we tried to use the rule of thirds as best as we could and we made sure that it wasn't always of a person lip syncing right in the center. We also made sure that everything was in focus. When things aren't in focus, it is really easy to tell and it sometimes gives people headaches. Another thing we did was add a movie poster. Adding a movie poster helped to showcase all of the things that we have learned in Photoshop. We also made an animation in Photoshop that said, "Bloopers." We decided to make it an animation to help showcase all of the different things we've done over the year. I think that this project was really fun and I hate to say goodbye to this awesome school year. |
